Visits, Road Trips and Projects...

Last post was all about work, not so much this time. We finished off the varnish project in time for our friends Gretchen & Mike to visit along with their granddaughter Addie. They were in luck because Pier 5 was having their lobster cookout that weekend. Seems there is a party here every month!!

Lobster, Steak and all the fixins'
No!! We didn't get a dog...
The following weekend we were back in Cincinnati for one last visit. We made sure to plan the trip with the beginning of Oktoberfest season and had a fine time at Germania, Prost!! A heavy shower one afternoon allowed the "adults" to show the children what to do with a mud puddle...

Try it kid...
After that it was back to the boat for a few days before another road trip. We got a few more projects checked off including removing the old, barely functioning washer & dryer. Thanks to our friends on pier 5 for the help with that one!! We ordered a new combo unit and timed the delivery for our return from the next road trip....we thought.

Labor day we had the boat hauled out for new bottom paint so we hit the road again since it would be "on the hard" till Friday. This time we headed south to Florida to make it official and get our drivers license's....we are now FL residents!! No state income tax and we are young geezers!! We got to Green Cove Springs on Tuesday and were in and out of the DMV in under an hour. Now what? Well since we had time to kill we headed over to St. Augustine to check out a town we'll head through on the boat next spring. We got in on the 450th anniversary of the founding of the town but missed the party that was held the weekend before. Oh well, we had fun anyway and look forward to being back.

Anchorage and Bridge on Lions
We got back to the marina about time the boat was finished and checked it out before she went back into the water. It looked great but I'll tell you the scariest time is when your home is hanging on that sling!!

After that is was back to work to get ready for the big trip. We got the boat caulked and did some more waxing before more visits. This time my sister Kathy came for a couple of days so Jill got a good "girl time" fix. Next our friends Bob & Julie came in for a couple of days. It's great to see everyone before we head off to the great unknown.

So....the washer/drier saga. When we got back from FL. we expected it to be here waiting for us. Not so much. The marina had no idea what we were talking about and the supplier was having a hard time getting an answer from the shipper. Finally, a week after it was supposed to be here I get a call from the shipper....it's destroyed! I kept waiting for a chuckle over the phone but it never came, seems someone had a forklift accident and we had to order a new one. It came in today and we got it installed and have done a load so it all turned out OK.

We are now 2 weeks from shoving off and have our "to do" list down to just a few items so things are going well. There are many boats coming through here now as they are doing the loop so we are meeting the folks we will be seeing as we make our way south. We probably won't get another post out before we leave so keep an eye on the "locate us" tab on the right starting October 6th. Until next post always keep one thing in mind.........

Happy Oktoberfest Season!!
PS I'm officially retired as of Sept. 12, no going back now!!!!!
