Time to go boating!!

Well here it is the end of January and almost time to move back onto the boat for awhile. Since this blog is about our travels on Chasing 80 and not living on land I didn't want to bore anyone with stories about Ft Myers. OK...I'll offer a few highlights to catch you all up before moving on to our future plans.

After Christmas we celebrated New Years eve with our friends Gretchen & Mike on the boat. We toasted the last sunset of 2017 with some fine Western Kentucky sippin' whiskey.

After that we walked into town for the street celebration and music before returning to the boat. We weren't sure if we'd make midnight but a few more cocktails allowed us to power through.

It was a great start to the New Year even though I seemed to be moving a bit slower the next morning!!

The rest of January has been spent getting the boat ready to travel as well as the house ready to close up for a couple of months. We've also had visits from friends and family as folks come down to get away from the great white north for awhile. We have also had hurricane shutters installed on the house to make closing up easier. Below are a couple of pictures of the lanai with our furniture and outdoor kitchen area. We'll be able to move everything under cover and roll down the shutters when we leave.

So that's what we've been up to. Tomorrow our friends Michelle & Joe arrive to join us for our trip to Key West. Joe has just retired and they are taking an extended trip to Florida to enjoy it! We will be leaving the marina on Wednesday and taking a few days to get there. Wednesday is also Jill's birthday (a big, changing numbers birthday) and we can't think of a better way to celebrate!!

After a month in Key West we'll be moving up the Atlantic coast to get in a position to jump over to the Bahamas for a few weeks weather permitting. We only plan to go as far as the Abacos this trip. After that we'll come back to the house for a month before heading north to the Chesapeake for the summer.

The tracker will be up and running beginning Wednesday so follow along on the "Locate Us" link to the right of this page.

One more picture from the Stuart boat show. It's a great boat name but a bit out of our price range!!
